What it is
Tap a precinct for its address, desk phone and community affairs contacts. The commuter railroads, Amtrak, NJ Transit, PATH and intercity buses are on the same map, with links out to their live service pages.
It is one fast page that works on a phone in the street.
Who it is for
New Yorkers and visitors who want to know which precinct they are in and how to reach it, and anyone planning a trip across the region.
How it started, and how I built it
The map stitches together public data that normally lives in separate places.
- Official data. Precinct boundaries come from New York City's planning department; contacts come from each precinct's own NYPD page.
- One light page. A single page on an open-source mapping library, with the map data served alongside it. No app to install.
What it shows I can do
- Combining public data sets into one clear, useful view.
- Building maps that work on a phone, fast, without heavy frameworks.
For a client, the same skill maps assets, sites or service areas so people can see them at a glance.
