What it is
A small server that speaks MCP, the open standard AI assistants use to call tools, on one side, and a virtual MIDI connection to FL Studio on the other. Ask for a tempo or a chord progression in plain English and hear it played.
Released as open source on GitHub. Reading FL Studio's state back to the assistant is marked beta until it has been proven end to end.
Who it is for
Musicians and producers curious about working with an AI assistant, and developers looking for a worked example of an MCP server that controls real software.
How it started, and how I built it
The question was simple: could an AI assistant play an instrument I use? The answer needed a bridge between two very different worlds.
- Standard on both ends. MCP for the AI side, plain MIDI and FL Studio's own scripting for the music side, so nothing proprietary is needed.
- Honest status. What has been proven live is documented as working; what has not is labelled beta.
- Open. MIT licensed, with setup instructions for the FL Studio side.
What it shows I can do
- Hands-on work with AI tooling and the Model Context Protocol, not just using a chatbot.
- Connecting software that was never designed to talk to each other.
For a client, the same approach connects AI assistants to the systems a team already uses, safely and with clear limits.
Questions people ask
Which assistants work with it?
Any assistant that supports the Model Context Protocol, including Claude.
Does it edit my arrangement?
No. It works through FL Studio's MIDI scripting: tempo, transport, patterns and notes.
